Guillemot Press is a small independent publisher with a preference for the simple, thoughtful and beautiful.
The Guillemot, Uria aalge, spends most of its time out at sea, but in Spring we flock landward, clustered on the country’s edges in dense cliff face cities to exchange stories. Guillemot Press will work with writers and illustrators to produce pamphlets and books that are attractive to read and to hold. We will be hosting events and readings, playing with book-making and performance, displaying and preening.
We publish illustrated poetry and single-story pamphlets, postcards, full collections and other objects. We have a love of the edges, the coasts and moors, woods and sea, and of all the beasts and fishes hidden beneath the surface. We also have a love of abstraction, absence, play and experiment – new ways of looking at where we are and who we are.
Our books have won the Michael Marks Publishers Award 2018 as well as the Michael Marks Award for Illustration and a D&AD Award, and have been exhibited at a range of venues, including at the British Library and the New York Poets House Showcase. We have ongoing collaborations with The Word Factory short story salon and with the Bodmin Moor Poetry Festival, and past collaborations that include working with the Eden Project, the Sustainable Eel Group, Port Eliot Festival, and the universities of Exeter, Falmouth and Plymouth, while hosting events, readings, exhibitions and workshops in galleries, theatres, museums, churches and bookshops all across the UK, from Penzance to Shetland.
